Year 1 & 2

Welcome to our learning in year 1 & 2 - Autumn 2

Welcome back to the colder weather, darker evenings, and fast approaching Christmas preparations!

This term on the ground floor, our topic is Explorers and Adventurers, and in Literacy we will be beginning the term by writing very seasonal fireworks poems.  We will also be writing persuasive advertisements to coax people to explore different locations – the week began with a wonderfully sensory lesson in which we had the chance to “experience” these locations in each classroom – see the article in the news section for pictures!  We will also be writing our own journey descriptions before moving onto story writing, when we will think about travelling through a magic door, and then will write space and alien adventure stories!

In Numeracy, we will be looking at 3D shapes, multiplication and division, fractions and money.  Science will all be about plants, and we will be growing cress in class to better illustrate the growing process.

In Geography, we will be learning about different climates, and History will involve learning all about explorers who have voyaged to such places as mountains, space, and under water.  In RE we will be seasonably learning all about Christmas and the Christmas story.  PE will be dance, gymnastics, and we will also be continuing with our weekly run in the Pleasaunce.  We will also be producing lots of artwork inspired by Multicultural Week.

Like everyone else across the school, we will also be beginning to rehearse for our Christmas performance – which this year will be Santa’s on Strike!

Year 1 & 2 Latest News

Christmas came early to Halstow yesterday, with not only a gift shop run by the Friends of Halstow, Christmas jumper day, and Christmas lunch, but also a visit from Santa Claus who visited every class in the school, bringing a gift for each child. A massive thank you to the Friends of Halstow for making this happen, and to everyone involved who helped the day run so smoothly and festively!

Lovely to see so many people - staff and children alike - dressed in pyjamas and spots for Children in Need. Some awesome stuffed toys, too! School council have done a fantastic job of raising money with today's dress up day, and yesterday's cake sale
